Paul Potts is the main character of David Frankel’s biographical comedy-melodrama “One Chance.”

Paul has an amazing tenor voice, a God-given talent; since childhood he has sung in the church choir and wherever else he could.

But he is already 37, a plump, good-natured man who works in an ordinary mobile phone store and lives in the attic of his parents’ house. None of this bothers him, though. He has a real dream, the dream of his whole life: to become an opera singer, to perform on stage and become famous. To become a real star! A few minutes of fame, and life will not have been lived in vain!

Besides his unprepossessing appearance, he receives “kicks” from fate in the form of ridicule, beatings by bullies, an operation before a concert; he runs into scaffolding and knocks out his teeth, and much more. But fate also gives him a gift — a girl who puts up with his failures and supports him in everything. Watching the hero’s ordeals, it is impossible not to feel for him.

Paul believes in himself and in miracles, for faith in a miracle is a call to the Universe. He believes, hopes and moves forward toward his dream. And how everything turns out for him — watch the film together with your children.

What gives the film its value is that it tells a true life story. The film is kind, instructive and touching. Perhaps it will make you see an art such as opera in a different way. Venice is magnificent and deserted.

Watch and enjoy.
