Freedom Writers (USA, Germany, 2007)

Erin Gruwell, a young English teacher, takes a job at a school in the Californian town of Long Beach.
On her first day at work she is full of inspiration and ready to conquer the whole world.
As a young and inexperienced teacher, she is given the least “elite” class.
The class is made up of troubled teenagers from different walks of life, divided into gangs and racial and clan groups that are at war with one another.
At just 14, they have already seen a lot in life. And they have neither the desire nor the time for studying.
The young, inexperienced teacher has to do more than simply reach the hearts of her students. Together with them she will go through hardships and victories.
One day she brings the book “The Diary of Anne Frank” to class and suggests that the children read it and that each of them keep a diary of their own, writing down their thoughts, experiences and feelings.
Erin manages to turn her students from bitter enemies into one close-knit family.
She conveys to the teenagers the idea that differences in appearance, skin color and nationality are no reason for conflict.
The causes of problems lie within ourselves, in our inner state.
The film teaches how important it is for children, and for us adults too, to explore ourselves and our inner world, to dream and fantasize, not to be afraid to bring our ideas to life, to find new paths and to build OUR OWN life.
The film “Freedom Writers” is based on Erin Gruwell’s book “The Freedom Writers Diary,” which was written from real stories in the form of diary entries.
The film is interesting, inspiring and relevant, and you watch it in one breath

Watch and enjoy!

With love, Tatyana.
