The autobiographical drama “Desert Flower” tells the story of the famous Black top model Waris Dirie.
This is the story of an incredibly strong and courageous woman. Before becoming a sought-after, world-famous supermodel, she had to live through a great deal of grief and suffering.
Waris was born into a clan of nomads in Somalia. According to the custom of her people, at the age of three she is subjected to a barbaric procedure, pharaonic circumcision. And at 13 she is married off. She runs away from her family, crosses the Somali desert alone without water or food, and reaches Mogadishu. Later she ends up in London, where she works as a servant at an embassy. The embassy returns to its home country, and the girl finds herself on the street, homeless and an illegal immigrant. Having gone through life’s trials, she finds friends and meets the famous photographer Terry Donaldson, who was able to see her unique beauty: a desert flower. She conquers the world of fashion and becomes one of the most popular models in the world.
At the peak of her career, she decides to tell the world about the cruel traditions of her people that she had to go through as a child. Waris Dirie was the first woman to speak publicly to the world about the practice of female circumcision and to condemn it; she was appointed a UN Special Ambassador and created a foundation to fight FGM. She was able to stand up against barbaric laws and achieve the impossible.
This fragile desert flower delights with her beauty, strength and splendor.
Watch and enjoy!
With love, Tatyana.
